Ahhh....we just got home from dinner and before that meal I intended to make this post about what I only imagined would be the highlight of my day...which happened around noon. However...dinner topped the King of Pop.

Long live the king |
If you know me well...you know I'm a little bit obsessed with MJ, have been since I was a niña (if you're not moved to tears by Man in the Mirror, something is wrong with you). Justin and I decided to venture out from the cafeteria in the pediatric hospital (we ended up back there eating the daily special, btw) to try out the other nearby hospital cafeterias. As I mentioned...the search for better food was a dead end...however we did get to see a performance by the King of Pop and his entourage of zombies. No words to describe this except amazing. Nothing like a surprise midday performance by the King himself to get you fired up for an afternoon of lectures in Chilean Espanol.
I should mention that this morning went much better as I was allowed to stay with Justin and he helped fill in the gaps. We saw a couple of patients together and read through their charts to get a better understanding of what exactly was going on. The patients on the infant ward where we were this morning are 2-3 to a room...a room with glass windows on all 4 sides might I add. Their mothers stay the night with them and sleep in what look to be very uncomfortable chairs.
Our attending informed us that this is much better than it was a few years ago when mothers were required to leave. This hospital is very different from what we're used to in America but it's amazing how they make it work with such limited resources.
The afternoon lecture was on traumatic brain injury (thank goodness for powerpoint which allowed me to follow most of the lecture).

Justin putting on his isolation protective gear |
After the lecture we waited around for Paula to meet us. We then took a share ride to the Universidad Católica. One of the scariest moments of my life up to this point.... Justin was a little carsick, I just kept seeing visions of a trauma bay. Needless to say, we'll be sticking to the metro from now on.
Paula showed us around the university and the hospital which were both beautiful. The hospital is very similar to an American hospital and the campus is gorgeous. Pictures to follow tomorrow when I'll take my camera back.
After our tour we came home and rested for a few mintues...finding things to do this weekend and next to keep us busy. We headed to the Bellavista area of town (via taxi) and had dinner at "Como Agua Para Chocolate." Dinner was absolutely amazing, with Justin dining on salmon and I preferring the filet, we sampled and agreed that both were pefecto!

Yes please, I'll have anoth |
We also shared some Chilean vino and Justin insisted we order the Tres Leches cake for dessert. Now, let me just say that I am a fan of cake...but cake of white milk at a restaurant named for chocolate did not seem like a good plan to me. I conceded to the boss (ha) and I'm ever so grateful that I did. Best dessert I've ever put in my mouth-hands down. Do not even get me started on the tragedy that is the doggie bag with that cake that we left behind :(.
Adios!

Sounds like a great day and night! Michael Jackson....sounds like he just drifted south of the border. The food looks fantastic and Tres Leches is one of my favorites. Can't believe you left the rest behind.
